A few months back, Empire announced it was going to be adding to the DS's growing stable of point-and-click adventures with Unsolved Crimes. In the game, you play a rookie detective trying to solve the mystery of a missing model named Betsy Blake. The whole game takes place in 1970s New York City and has you searching environments for clues and talking to suspects as you try to crack the case.

Now, Empire has revealed a little bit more on what we can expect from the game. And it's sounding like Unsolved Crimes is going to be a bit more of a rounded experience than other point-and-click adventures such as Hotel Dusk. As while it's got all the usual crime-scene searching and item collecting, it will also have shoot-outs and action car chases too.

Other sections will have you playing through crime quizzes and using the stylus to trace marks, mark routes and write memos on suspicious items discovered at crime scenes, all of which enable you to move closer to solving your kidnapping mystery.

So there's action, 3D crime-scene investigation and the crime quizzes to get stuck into. There will also be eight independent cases to solve in total, although the overarching story line about finding missing Betsy runs throughout the game.

Unsolved Crimes is due out this autumn. We haven't had a really good point-and-click adventure for a while now on DS, aside from Phoenix Wright of course. Much as we love Capcom's crime capers though, with Apollo Justice being the fourth game released on DS we could do with something a bit new to get our puzzle solving brains stuck into. Click 'Track It!' if you want to keep your detective spy glass hovering over this one.
