Unreal Engine 3 coming to Android, iOS is priority

Following Apple’s recent relaxation of its rules concerning the use of third-party development tools, Epic has announced that the Unreal Development Kit will soon be able to generate apps on all iOS devices.

That means the UDK, a development kit with the same tools used to power games like Gears of War and Mass Effect, will be able to make games to be released on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

Epic is working on a UE3 game of its own in Project Sword, and has released free tech demo Epic Citadel on the App Store to show off the jaw-dropping graphics. The castle-exploring trial has already been download over a million times.

Also interesting is that Epic revealed the dev kit will be coming to other devices in the future. Epic VP Mark Rein said, via his Twitter account, that he had Unreal Engine 3 running on a Tegra 2 Android gadget and the Samsung Galaxy S.

However, while Android support will come “eventually”, iOS is the studio’s priority right now.
