Epic VP Mark Rein told crowd members at GameHorizon in Gateshead that the developer believed paid games won’t be losing out to freemium or ad-supported games any time soon, but admitted that prices will need to drop.

“I'd rather sell 10 million games at $25 and have a chance to sell DLC than 5 million at $50 on a disc that gets traded around.”

He also disagreed with the notion that mobile and browser games inherently meant free games, stating “ Triple-A isn't going away, it's going everywhere.” Publishers will just have to figure out better monetising schemes.

Rein then showed off the Unreal engine prototype running on the iPhone, iPad, and Android, and described the devices as the “consoles of the future”. If mobile phone power doubled "even two more times, you can play Gears of War on this.”

Epic is known for console and PC games such as Unreal and Gears of War.
