Britain might have spectacularly failed to qualify for this year's Euro 2008, but such a detail was hardly going to prevent EA utilising its official licensee status to create a Euro 2008 game.

Today the publisher announces UEFA Euro 2008 will be released across Europe ahead of the tournament's June kick-off on April 11th for PSP and mobile. The game is also coming to most home consoles, meaning DS (and Wii) is the only format that isn't allowed to play.

So what will the game offer? Well, it's much of what you'd expect really. Being from EA, it'll feature 50 of the national European teams in total as well as all of the official stadia that are going to be part of the real competition.

The game won't only have authentic visual representations of players and stadia, its gameplay is described as more accessible, more responsive and faster-paced than ever. Players are able to play their favourite team from qualification through to the championship tournament.

Two play modes have been unveiled, although we're not sure they'll both definitely be in the PSP version of the game. Captain Your Country lets gamers play as themselves on the pitch, striving for captaincy of their team, and Battle of the Nations is the game's online mode where players can play it out against others.

Meanwhile, the mobile UEFA Euro 2008 will feature a new innovative single-button control system, which EA hopes will make it one of the most casual and accessible 11 vs 11 football experiences on the format. Time will tell upon its release.

There are no screenshots of the game in action as yet, but we'll return as soon as we get some.
