Mobile games aren't only about having fun; they can also serve more serious causes - something that's the case with Tuskegee Redtails.

On one hand, it's an arcade flight combat game for iOS, Android and browsers.

On the other, it's designed to raise awareness of a significant historical event.

Named after the institute where they trained, the Tuskegee Airman were the first African-America pilots in the US armed forces.

During WWII, they flew fighters - particularly bomber escort missions in the European campaign - gaining the name Redtails because of their planes' distinctive paint job.

Bandits high

As for the game, it's being developed by Hardcore 3D Wireless and published by non-profit organisation Leo Sullivan Multimedia, to raise awareness about the group.

Various different game modes will be offered, from bomber escort to air combat and ground attack.

Featured planes are the P-51D Mustang, P-47 Lighting and P-40 Warhawk, which were the types the 332nd Fighter Group flew during the war.
