Tris to be removed from iPhone App Store
Developer defiant despite copyright complaint
Us Europeans are still waiting for EA Mobile's Tetris to go on sale on the iPhone App Store, so it's no surprise that various clones have been doing well in the download charts.
One of them is Tris, which was developed by US student Noah Witherspoon. However, following a copyright complaint made by rights-holder The Tetris Company, he's removing it from the store tomorrow.
"I've received notice from Apple that they've been contacted by The Tetris Company about Tris," he writes on his blog. "That, I'm afraid, is essentially game over."
Witherspoon reckons there isn't a case to answer - or wouldn't be if he changed the name to something like Trys - but says he can't afford to take the matter to court.
Even though Tris is free, it's hardly surprising to see The Tetris Company trying to squash it. You could compare the case to what's happening with the Scrabulous game on Facebook.
For now, you can download Tris by clicking here.
