Midway converting five games to the iPhone

Just like you, whenever we hear Midway’s name mentioned we immediately hope for a dazzling new Mortal Kombat, Gauntlet or Robotron game.

But the news that Midway’s turning its eye upon the App Store doesn’t include any mention of such awesome arcade classics - instead, we hear the gaming giant is looking to bring its somewhat underused Touchmaster franchise to the iPhone.

For the uninitiated, the Touchmaster range has already been ported to the DS from the unusual bar-top, touchscreen-controlled, mini-game collective arcade machines of yesteryear.

The App Store is to see five ports of different Touchmaster games, including Prismatix, Dice King, Combo 11, Carpet and Spellwinder - all priced at the lowest tier of 59p.

If mini-games, or indeed the old Touchmaster system, is of particular appeal to you, then you’ll be glad to hear a bundle will also be available and weigh in a bit cheaper for bulk buying.

Although it’s not quite the Midway/iPhone news we wanted, it’s great to know that it’s now looking at the App Store as a viable outlet, and is the first step toward the iPhone adaptation of Mortal Kombat that any one of us would chop Sub Zero’s head off to play.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
