Modders set to work on porting Android to HP TouchPad

HP's TouchPad failed to make a splash when it was originally released back in July, but HP's decision to ditch the market and flog off remaining stocks with a $99 fire sale has made the WebOS-powered slate a must-have for collectors and modders alike.

That latter group now has another reason for craving the dwindling device, with word that several hackers are on a mission to port over the Android operating system.

The HP TouchPad packs some decent specs, including a 9.7" 1024x768 IPS display, 1GB RAM, and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. So if the hackers do manage to get Android running, the TouchPad might just be a winner again - especially with a $99 price tag.
