First look at Tomb Raider: Underworld for mobile

There've been a series of Tomb Raider mobile games, from 2D platformers to 3D adventures, and even a puzzle game. Now EA Mobile is preparing to release the latest in the series, Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Hang on a mo: EA Mobile? Yep. With Eidos having exited the mobile industry, EA has signed a licensing deal to release a bunch of mobile games based on Eidos' console brands, including Tomb Raider.

We've had a go on the new game, and can report it's looking pretty nifty. It's gone back to 3D, although that's the graphics – you don't have full freedom of movement in the environment. The idea is to get around the control restrictions of mobile, something the game does well judging by our playtest.

You get to run, jump, swim, climb and dangle off ledges, as you'd expect from a Tomb Raider game. Oh, and shoot things with a pair of pistols, obviously. They wouldn't leave that out.

There's also a skidoo level, introducing a spot of racing into the game. And naturally, you'll be flexing your puzzle-solving muscles back in the regular levels – an element that's always been a big part of Tomb Raider.

Check out the screenshots, anyway. We'll try to have a proper hands-on, followed by a review, in advance of the game's release later this month.
