Rumour: Parts listing from peripheral maker hints at Apple's forthcoming tablet being called iPad HD

If you're a fan of Apple, you've probably been mightily excited ever since the Cupertino-based company started to send out media invitations for an iPad event that will be held on March 7th.

Like us, you probably assumed that the forthcoming event, which will be held in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, would mark the arrival of Apple's iPad 3. This, however, may not be the case.

According to website Pocket-lint, a parts listing from case and peripherals specialist Griffin refers to Apple's forthcoming tablet as the 'iPad HD'.

It's in the details

Admittedly, the above evidence isn't much to go on, but Gizmodo is also reporting that the iPad HD moniker has cropped up in usage data from an analytics application called Tapatalk, which collects data on devices used to visit various websites.

Furthermore, the same application has registered visits from a device packing a 2048x1536 display, which is the expected resolution of the purported forthcoming Retina display-equipped iPad.

If this is, indeed, just a coincidence, it's a ruddy big one.

Don't go too far

Our sister site PocketGamer.biz recently spoke with a number of App Store developers regarding the addition of another device - possibly with an extremely high-resolution display - to the iOS family.

Some of the interviewees expressed reservations about a Retina display-equipped iPad, fearing that it could lead to high production costs, large file sizes, App Store fragmentation, and small indie developers being left out in the cold.

I, however, just really, really wanna touch it.
