Rumour: Apple in the process of testing an iPad with an 8-inch screen

According to the Wall Street Journal, "anonymous officials" at some of Apple's Asian suppliers have confirmed that the Cupertino-based tech firm is in the process of testing out an 8-inch iPad.

Apple has apparently shown said "officials" screen designs of the new slate, which is purported to have a resolution of around 1024x768. The same as the iPad 2, in other words.

Tim Cook's company is believed to be working with a number of manufacturers to create test panels, including Taiwan-based AU Optronics Co. and South Korea-based LG Display Co.

That's a no

According to people "familiar with the matter", Apple has been contemplating various tablet designs for a substantial period of time.

Back in 2010, though, the late Steve Jobs had some choice words to say about smaller tablets, with Apple's former CEO stating that the iPad's 9.7-inch display was the "minimum size required to create great tablet apps".

We'll just have to wait and see.
