Apple employee says the iPad 3 will have a 'truly amazing' screen

With so much speculation surrounding the launch of the iPad 3, it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep on top of all the hearsay and gossip mongering.

The latest bit of 'insider' info on Apple's as-yet-unconfirmed touchscreen tablet, however, not only backs up existing rumours concerning the iPad 3's improved screen and processor, but it also comes from an actual Apple employee.

According to a report in The New York Times, "An Apple employee said that the version of the new iPad that is being tested inside the company is 'essentially the same size and shape as the iPad 2,' with an improved and 'truly amazing' screen."

Seeing is believing

As our comprehensive iPad 3 rumour round-up illustrates, the specs of this allegedly awe-inspiring screen have been the subject of much internet debate over the past, well, 11 months.

Although a Retina display is top of the predicted hardware features list for the upcoming iPad 3, no one can agree on which company is actually manufacturing these high-res displays.

iLab Factory has acquired some photos of a Sharp-manufactured 2048x1536 screen that it believes puts the issue to rest, while CNET mentions Samsung and LG as possible candidates for the production of the Retina display screens.

The Apple employee cited in the New York Times's report went on to confirm, incidentally, that the iPad 3 will be powered by a faster processor: something that should come as a surprise to precisely nobody.
