Screw up someone else's life in iPhone interactive movie game The Weathered Underground

Interactive movies haven't had a good reputation on iPhone, or in other game form either.

The technical challenges of generating enough high quality footage for a decent branching storyline has defeated many developers.

Coming out from a film background however The Weathered Underground seems to demonstrate a better grasp of what's required however.

Light, camera, choices

From writer, director and actor David Donihue, it's a mixture of live action and animated content featuring Brea Grant (Daphne from Heroes) and Hollis McLachlan (The 7th Plague) and Donihue himself.

The plot revolves around slacker anti-hero Eric. His ex-girlfriend is the center of his gleefully dysfunctional world, and so during one surreal evening, his life spins out of control, mainly because you keep making him do stupid things.

And with a character cast of drug dealers, flirty Mormons, hot psychotic bitches, bugged out friends and all the usual baggage expected of LA life, that's plenty of stupid to go around.

Relive mistakes

Each plot run through takes between 10 to 20 minutes, with a two-way decision points every 90 seconds or so. Dozens of endings are promised.

Music is also a strong theme, with the soundtrack featuring The Lashes, Kay Kay And His Weathered Underground, Sirens Sister, The Divorce, and electro-freak Punko.

The Weathered Underground is out now, priced $3.99, €2.99 or £2.39. Note it's a whopping 976 MB download.
