The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor unbandages for mobile

If you're going to go poking a hornets' nest with a stick, expect to be attacked by hordes of angry sting-happy insects. It's advice Brendan Fraser's character, Rick O'Connell, in the Mummy series of films would do well to observe (though in his case, he's more likely to be chased by scarab beetles), such is his habit for stumbling through tombs, annoying the undead and generally raising curses, mayhem and catastrophe at every turn.

But hey, it makes for great popcorn entertainment and, by the same token, mobile game material. Being Universal's partner for these sort of things, Gameloft has once again snagged the publishing rights for the mobile game and is to develop a title based on the forthcoming blockbuster, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The game is set to release alongside the film this August and will therefore centre on Rick O'Connell's attempts to defeat the resurrected Han Emperor in an epic adventure spread across the catacombs of ancient China to the peaks of the Himalayas.

Expect a mixture of puzzles and action, which we reckon will take shape as a typical side-scrolling action-platformer with the odd mini-game thrown in between the levels. The game is said to have "eye popping" visuals and the change of scenery from mystical Egyptian underworld to mystical Asian underworld should help breath new life into the characters and by-the-hieroglyphs premise.
