Indie dream team making iOS tie-in game for The Hunger Games movie

Some of the leading names in the indie gaming industry are teaming up to create the official game of the upcoming film The Hunger Games.

Led by Adam Saltsman (Canabalt), who was approached by the film's distributor Lionsgate back in October, this indie 'dream team' includes Mark Johns (Tap Tap Dance), Keven Coulton (Space Barnacle), and Paul Veer (Super Crate Box).

In addition, Daniel Baranowsky (Super Meat Boy) is composing the music, Ozone Sound & Music (Max and Al's Heavy-Duty) is taking on the sound duties, while Kert Gartner (Winnitron) is handling the launch trailer.

Run for your life

Details on the gameplay and setting for the group's The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire tie-in title are a little thinner on the ground, but Saltsman says that while it does "feature a running character", it would focus "more on marksmanship and strategy".

What it won't be is just a reskinned Canabalt, something Saltsman says he's asked to do "at least [once] a month from a well-meaning account executive for an advertising or media firm".

The Hunger Games is the cinematic adaptation of the first book in Suzanne Collins's popular post-apocalyptic sci-fi The Hunger Games trilogy, first published in 2008.

The game is expected to launch at the same time as the film in North America, so expect to see it hit the App Store around March 23rd.
