I-play teams up with McDonald's for mobile games contest

Fancy a mobile game with your Big Mac? That's the implication of McDonald's involvement in a US competition called the Midnight Gaming Championship.

Claiming to be the first ever 'mainstream' mobile gaming tournament (there've been loads of counter-culture ones, obviously), the Midnight Gaming Championship will involve gamers playing I-play's new The Fast and the Furious: Fugitive game, in 52 tournaments held across the US.

Prizes include magazine and website subscriptions, DVDs, and cold hard cash. Meanwhile, the best players will be flown to Dallas for the grand championship tournament in October.

It all sounds great, but it's making us wonder why nobody's organised this kind of thing in the UK, given the popularity of mobile games here. Fingers (or should we say thumbs?) crossed that someone takes a punt on the idea soon. And preferably on a game that we're ace at.
