The Crystal Maze goes free on iPhone

Eagle-eyed game show-loving iPhone owners may have spotted some surprisingly good news in the App Store this morning.

BAFTA award-winning developer Dynamo Games’s TV spin-off game The Crystal Maze is going free for one day only.

All of the ‘90s cult show’s trademarks remain intact, from Richard O’Brien as host to The Crystal Dome itself.

Before reaching The Dome, players must navigate their way successfully through 12 challenges in the four original zones, collecting crystals for currency in the final time-based showdown.

High scores can then be posted to an online leaderboard via the OpenFeint network.

On the game's release in February 2010, Dynamo Games's Brian McNicoll commented, "The Crystal Maze is one of those rare institutions that defined television in the ‘90s.”

"Working closely with the creators of the show, we have captured the feeling of the series and look forward to expanding on the game with a strong line up of expansion packs in the near future.”
