Could this be the mobile entertainment industry's Oscars?

We love a glitzy awards ceremony as much as the next man, even if nobody's yet seen fit to include a category for 'Most Ninja Team of Mobile Game Journalists'. (Take note, award organisers.)

Anyway, the latest ceremony worth dusting off your tux for is The Wave Awards, which take place in LA next January.

Convened by the Academy of Wireless Arts, Video and Entertainment, they're clearly offering a nod to the movie industry's Oscars, with categories for 'Favorite Mobile Comedy Series', 'Favorite Mobile Dramatic Artist', and 'Favorite Music Video'.

And there are three genre-based mobile game categories for the best action, sports and strategy games, as well as an overall 'Game of the Year' category.

Games up for nomination include Pocket Gamer faves Critter Crunch, Brick Breaker Revolution, The Fast and the Furious: Fugitive, Project Gotham Racing Mobile, Rise of Lost Empires, and DChoc Cafe.
