No one likes tentacles. Except, well, perhaps, octopuses. But, then again, they don't have to look at their own scaly, freaky bodies, so that's probably why.

Tentacle Wars HD on iPad is going to do nothing to quell our general fear of all things slimy and wriggly, as numerous nasty organisms are on the verge of destroying the last of an alien species.

With the power of your finger, you can change the course of history and keep this alien species from going extinct simply by firing out your long gangly tentacles and latching on to weaker organisms before the nasty ones come a-knocking.

It's an organism-eat-organism world out there, you know.

Ten-tacle out of ten?

Tentacle Wars HD plays out as a single-player and multiplayer strategy game, as you battle your way through 40 story mode missions, and then take on your friends online.

There's also a puzzle edge to it, for you must carefully pick and choose which organisms to lunge for, and which to stay well away from. Sometimes, for example, you'll need to sacrifice weaker cells to continue your push onwards, but all's good in love and war, as they say.

Tentacle Wars HD will wriggle onto the UK and US App Stores tomorrow, and will set you back £1.99 / $2.99.
