Tank sims are part of the gaming landscape. For one reason or another, piloting a tank around a bit of suitably rough terrain in a high-calibre chess game (only a chess game where the pieces move in any direction and blow each other up – so nothing like a chess game at all, really [quite - ed]) seems to be a premise that yields some very entertaining gameplay.

And thus Tank Ace 1944 trundled out onto the App Store today, featuring a 3D tank scenario based loosely around World War II.

On your way to take over the enemy's capital (that'd be Berlin) you must clear each area of enemy vehicles and scavenge for ammo and fuel to see you safely across the far bank of a river and secure the area for troops to move in. There also appears to be some semblance of strategy involved, with each faction conquering and retreating in an effort to progress their war effort.

The App Store description seems to be rather tongue-in-cheek, so we shall see how heavy or light the gameplay turns out to be, but hit caterpillar-'Track It!' now to ready yourself for more info as it arrives.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
