Granted, it’s probably not the first idea that would come to mind if you were asked to make a Tamagotchi game for DS, but that’s the spark of inspiration Bandai is revealing with the announcement of Tamagotchi: Corner Shop.

Combining the ideas of keeping the virtual Tamagotchi pets alive with food and fun with the concept of eerrr.. keeping a cornershop open and its customers happy, the game is being tagged as a a shopping simulation set in the Tamagotchi world.

What this actually means is you’ll get to choose one of three Tamagotchi characters (Mametchi, Memetchi or Kuchipatchi) and open a shop, with the commercial options including bakery, beauty salon, dentist's office or flower shop. Once the shop is open, you’ll have to play various touchscreen mini-games to fulfil the requirements of your customers with tasks including applying makeup, treating cavities or decorating cakes.

Do these well and you’ll be paid in Gs - Tamagotchi money - which will let you customise your shop and offer more items for sell. The final goal of th game is to gain royal status - a bit like a company getting the Queen’s seal of approval in the UK. In Tamagotchi-land though, you’re trying to impress Princess Tamako. And, of course, all the action will take place in a hand-drawn cartoon-style world full of your favourite Tamagotchi characters.
