Onto its third version, Tamagotchi Corner Shop DS is becoming a chain

Napoleon is once supposed to have remarked that the English were a nation of shopkeepers. That was over 200 years ago though. Now it might be more correct to suggest we're a nation of shoppers. Whichever - it should mean Namco Bandai's announcement of Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 3 falls into fertile ears and pursues.

The latest game in the million-selling DS series, it seems to be following the typical sequel trend by combining something new, something improved and keeping the rest exactly as before.

The same sees you running various shops in Tamagotchi Town and dealing with queues of punters who enter demanding their own special requirements are met.

Improvements will see an expansion in the type of shops you can run, with Namco Bandai promising 13 additional roles, such as baking bread in the bakery, party planning in the event coordinator's shop, and scooping ice cream at the ice cream parlour. You're nothing if not multi-talented.

Newness comes in the shape of tamagotchi Violetchi, who will now be a selectable character alongside existing favourites such as Mametchi, Kuchipatchi and Memetchi. There's also a park that you can design and decorate with fountains, gardens and other unlockable items. When you're not slogging your guts out, you'll be able to visit it and chat with other tamagotchis. You'll be able to write a daily journal about what you get up to, and share it and collectible items across the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection with your friends too.

We hope these are all combined with more interesting and challenging touchscreen mini-games than characterised the previous games however. Otherwise, we'll be down that Tamagotchi Town asking for our money back.

Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 3 is due be released sometime during the summer.
