T-Mobile G2 gets official in US
First ever Android phone gets a follow-up
T-Mobile US has finally gone official to tell us what we already knew – that the granddaddy of Android phones, the G1, is set to get a proper follow-up.
The G2 (again developed by HTC) will be a suitably high-end piece of kit, with a 3.7-inch screen, slide out QWERTY keyboard, Snapdragon processor, 4GB internal memory and an 8GB MicroSD card (expandable to 32GB). The phone will also feature a five-megapixel camera with LED flash, and will be capable of taking 720p video.
While it’s obviously not as revolutionary as the G1 proved to be, the G2 does have one first up its sleeve. It’ll be the “first smartphone specifically designed for T-Mobile’s new HSPA+ network2,” which should allow for 4G network speeds, according to the operator’s press release.
There’s no sign of a release date yet, but the announcement states that T-Mobile US customers will be able to “preorder the G2 in limited quantities later this month.”
