Super Smash Bros. Ultimate cheats and tips - Advanced techniques everyone should know
Only for the truly skilled smashers
Super Smash Bros. is an easy game. Accessible. Simple. It only becomes complicated when you become aware of how much depth there is laying just below the surface.
There's a bunch of mechanics and tricks in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that they just don't tell you, which is why we're here to outline some of the most helpful.
Master these moves in addition to your Smash Bros. fundamentals and you're guaranteed to be the best among your group of friends.
1
Shield drop parry
One of the brand new techniques added to Smash Ultimate - and one of the riskiest - is the shield drop parry.
To activate this, all you have to do is let go of your shield at the very moment your enemy attacks you. This provides you with a tiny bit of extra time to counter them with an attack of your own.
It might not seem to useful at first, but Jigglypuff in particular can make great use of it by punishing reckless foes with a down B Rest.
2
B reversal
The B reversal is still present from the last generation of Super Smash Bros. games, and still works pretty similarly.
Simply, if you want to use a neutral B special move but in the direction opposite to what you're facing, you can press the button for the move, and slam your control stick in the direction you want to face immediately afterwards.
On ground this move might feel underwhelming, but when in the air this is one of the few ways to change the direction your characters is facing, and using it will also drastically change your aerial momentum.
3
Turnaround jab/grab
This is a tiny, simple move that will prove incredibly useful in the long run, especially if you're the type of player who likes going one on one.
When shielding and in shield stun, you can lightly hold your control stick in the opposite direction than what you're facing, and when you drop your shield you will be facing in that direction.
This is excellent for grabbing enemies attacking your shield from behind, hiding from your counter, or returning their kindness with a quick jab combo. If you dash attack or dash grab, you know you're holding the stick too firmly.
4
Alternate ways to pick up items
Yes, you can walk up to an item and press A to pick it up - but that's neither flashy, nor is it optimal, especially not now in Smash Ultimate.
Just as in the last generation of Smash games, you can use either an aerial attack or an air dodge while on top of an item to grab it. This is great for larger weapons, or items on a hovering platform.
This is extra useful in Ultimate. Your directional air dodge will allow you to grab the item, and then move away from or closer to your enemy in the same move. Smart.
