Splatoon 2 will also have a League Battle mode for more competitive gamers
Not long to go
With the release of Splatoon 2 less than a month away, it's never too late to announce a new game mode and lo-and-behold, the team has done just that.
According to an interview by Glixel with the game's producer, Hisashi Nogami and programming director Shintaro Sato, Splatoon 2 will also be getting a new mode called League Battle.
After discussing the difficulty and play style of the game's newest mode, Salmon Run, Shintaro Sato says, "There's also a new mode in Splatoon 2 called League Battle. This will be a mode that players can play either in groups of two or four, and it will present you with a two-hour period in which your group competes with other groups to see how many points you can earn. Because the results of that League Battle play will be displayed in a ranking at the end of every two-hour period, we can give players goals to strive for, and hope to encourage them to keep competing and pushing."
While Salmon Run had been made up more for quick games in local multiplayer, it sounds like League Battle toes the 'eSports' line more directly, and offers something up to more high-ranked, competitive players.
Splatoon 2 launches on July 21st on the Nintendo Switch. We'll keep on updating you as the time ticks closer.
