7 Sega Dreamcast games we'd love to see on Nintendo Switch
|

Have you heard? Sega is bringing a bunch of its classic games to the Nintendo Switch under the Sega Ages banner.

Naturally, this will entail a bunch of the company's Mega Drive and Master System games. Way more exciting, however, is the news that the Saturn and the Dreamcast will be getting some Switch ports.

7 Sega Saturn games we'd love to see on Nintendo Switch

Sega's last two consoles may have died ignominious deaths at retail, but they still churned out some top quality games.

We've already run through some great Sega-published Saturn games we'd love to see on Switch. Now it's time to do the same for the Dreamcast.

Jet Set Radio

Imagine a sprawling open-world adventure combined with a stunt-fuelled skating game, then stir in a little of Splatoon's cartoon-graffiti attitude. That's Jet Set Radio in a nutshell.

JSR has come to a whole bunch of platforms (including the Vita and mobile) in some form or other over the years. We can't thing of any that were a better fit for this vibrant oddity than Nintendo's Switch.

Sega Rally 2

We included the first Sega Rally game in our Saturn round-up. It would be wrong not to do the same with its Dreamcast follow-up, which is an even better combination of arcade accessibility and technical racing.

Sega Rally 2 on Dreamcast wasn't the best arcade conversion job Sega ever did, but that just makes us want an improved Switch version all the more. We've seen such a thing on other consoles and, hey, there's always the arcade version itself to go off.

Skies of Arcadia

This fondly remembered JRPG casts you as an energetic sky pirate in a vibrant fantasy world. Forget the mopey histrionics of its contemporaries - Skies of Arcadia is all about wide-eyed adventure.

The game has already received a highly lauded port to a Nintendo machine, but that was way back in 2003 on the GameCube. A new generation needs to be alerted to its charms.

Shenmue

Sega legend Yu Suzuki's life simulator was an amazing, forward-thinking, and ruinously expensive experiment in interactive storytelling. It combined open world exploration, beat-'em-up action, RPG character development and way more besides.

Despite seeing two games released on Dreamcast, the sprawling Shenmue project never saw completion - though a third game is finally due in 2018. Bringing the first two games to Switch would serve as a handy refresher if nothing else.

Space Channel 5

Directed by Rez mastermind Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Space Channel 5 is one of the most vibrant, fun, and downright kooky rhythm action games ever made.

Playing the role of funky space reporter Ulala (you read that right), it's your job to match the funky beats across a series of dance-offs and shoot-outs.

Sonic Adventure 2

Dreamcast fans continue to debate which is the better game out of Sonic Adventure and its sequel. We're not going to make a comment either way, but we are going state that Sonic Adventure 2 would make for a better Switch game.

Sonic's second true 3D adventure features arguably the best local multiplayer mode of any Sonic game, with a range of race and battle modes making for a great competitive couch experience. Which is what the Switch excels at.

Sega Bass Fishing

Why on Earth would we want to see a dull old fishing game on the cool-as-hell Nintendo Switch? For one thing, Sega Bass Fishing isn't remotely dull. In fact, it's a surprisingly thrilling arcade game with stacks of hidden depth.

But mainly we've chosen it because the motion-sensitive Joy-Cons could be a brilliant stand-in for the famous fishing rod peripheral.

Jon is a consummate expert in adventure, action, and sports games. Which is just as well, as in real life he's timid, lazy, and unfit. It's amazing how these things even themselves out.
