Resident Evil 7 is finally coming to Switch on May 24th, but there's a catch – it'll only be playable on a cloud streaming platform, and it's only coming to Japan initially.

Yes, Capcom has made the decision not to give you the entire game to download, but will instead stream the game via the cloud, a service which has not traditionally sat well with gamers.

There are some plus sides, however. For one, you get a 15-minute trial of the game, so you can check if your Internet is good enough before paying. And if you do pay, you get access to the entire game plus all previously released DLC, which isn't a bad deal at all.

Choose to stump up the cash and you can buy a 180-day pass for 2,000 yen (around $18/£13.50), which should give you more than enough time to finish the game.

Making it streamable from the cloud does bypass certain technological barriers in theory with the Switch, but without a decent Internet connection it'll be basically unplayable. No scares on the train for you, it would seem.

Still, we won't know how well it performs until the game actually launches on May 24th. There's no word on if this service will be coming to the West either, but we'll let you know if we hear more.
