Bethesda is hoping to build renewed interest in the Rage series when Rage 2 launches next year, and the Nintendo Switch could be a part of that plan. Bethesda and Id Software are looking into bringing the game to Switch, although nothing’s official yet.
Speaking to Variety at QuakeCon 2018, Bethesda’s Tim Willits said that a Switch port hasn’t been ruled out just yet. Id Software has worked with Panic Button to bring Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to Switch, as well as the upcoming Doom Eternal. Rage 2 would seem like a logical next step.

However, Rage 2 will be graphics-intensive, so the developers will have to clear some technological hurdles to bring the game to Switch users.

“We’re looking at the tech on that right now, and we’re still evaluating that,” Willits told Variety in regards to a Switch release. “We stream everything, and we’re just looking… because everything is open, everything’s available, so there’s no level loads. We are looking at that now, but we don’t know.”

Bethesda wants Rage to become another mainstay in the publisher’s portfolio of classic shooters like Quake and Doom. Whether the Switch will have a part in that, we’ll just have to wait and see. Rage 2 launches in spring 2019.
