When Ninty started revealing the game sizes of some of their first titles earlier this year, it was a bit concerning that some of them were too close for comfort to the 32 GB memory. However, it looks like the day's caught up to us where Switch owners really do have to consider buying more memory for the system.

In an interview with IGN, Nintendo stated "a microSD card will be needed for certain Nintendo Switch games that contain an especially large amount of content and require additional storage for players to enjoy the full experience."

At least Ninty's giving its customers fair warning as both the front and back of the physical boxes, and the eShop's listing will tell you whether you need more memory or not.

If you're keen to stand your ground and stick with the original memory, however, it's also be confirmed that you can still play portions of the game out of the box. You'll just miss out of the extra bits you get from the usual content updates/downloads.

So far at least NBA 2K18 will require extra space, but we'll let you know when more come to light.
