The Nintendo Switch's two-day sales figures in the Americas break records

And it came close in Japan

The Nintendo Switch's two-day sales figures in the Americas break records

Unsurprisingly, the Nintendo Switch's sales figures are already skyrocketing throughout Japan, the Americas, and the UK.

The figures in Japan alone are really quite incredible. From March 3rd to March 5th, the Nintendo Switch sold an estimated figure of 330,600 copies. Nintendo has yet to offer up the official number but even by estimation that's pretty incredible. Apparently the only console to top that number was the Wii back in 2006, though only by 40,000 or so.

NYT reporter, Nick Wingfield, gave an insight into the Americas' stats, saying that the Switch exceeded the first two-day sales of any Nintendo system in history. The Wii came second. More impressively, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also took a place as the best-selling standalone game, dethroning Super Mario 64.

As for the UK, Clement covered the situation in yesterday's article. However, I've got no doubt they would have been higher if there'd been adequate stock of the neon version on launch day.

That's enough waffling on my end. Whatever way you look at it, the Switch has gotten off to a great start but the real question lies in its long-term effect. Will we still be playing it in five years, or will it be something that rides the hype-train only to burn out after a year or two?
