What a first year the Nintendo Switch has had. The very process of putting this list together illustrates as much.

Though Nintendo's latest console has only actually been on the market for around nine months, we swiftly realised a top ten games feature simply wasn't going to do the platform justice.

Indeed, we've still left a whole bunch of brilliant games out of the reckoning in our final 25.

If you're getting a Switch this Christmas, well, you have a whole bunch of premium gaming in store for you. Grab anything from this list and you'll be happy.

(Psst: if mobile gaming is more your thing, here's our definitive list of the top 25 iOS and Android games of 2017 too!)

ARMS

Nintendo launched a brand new franchise on us in 2017, and ARMS was as fun as it was unexpected. It's a one-on-one beat-'em-up done the Nintendo way - which means wacky characters, tonnes of colour, and a deceptively involved combat system.
