A round trip

The doors in Kirby’s world will often take your through levels in a fairly linear fashion, the worst part of that is that most doors aren’t going to let you back through once you’ve passed.

There are two types of door - aside from the ones you’ll find at the end of levels or requiring multiple characters to open. One has a red star above it, and the other has a yellow star. Simply, the red star indicates a round trip. You’ll be able to hop in, and come back out again, indicating it leads to hidden treasures and items.

Yellow stars are a one way deal though, meaning that you should ensure the area you’re in has been scoured for secrets before walking through.

Dropping through

A simple one this - often, items will be hidden right below you, and all you’ll need to do is get down there.

Thinner platforms can be dropped through by holding down - remember this for many scenarios - though sometimes getting down there just won’t be that easy.

You’ll have scenarios where ice blocks can be covering treasures, or hard black boxes. Ice and such will require fire to get through, which should be available nearby, while black boxes will require you to find and activate a bomb block.

Power to pave a path

Using the elemental abilities to carve a path through levels to get to special items is fun and worthwhile, though it won’t always be as simple as smashing through blocks if you want to get 100%.

Powers and power combinations are required in order to get everything in the game, and you’ll have to experiment with movesets to get the most out of Kirby’s abilities.

The sword with a wind power up, for example, will throw out a gust of wind which heads forwards a bit, before shooting upwards. All you need to do for this is stand still and swing, and it’ll be able to activate distant switches, in addition to finishing off enemies.

Make sure to experiment with the movesets of all of the different abilities in order to find the best way to progress and find hidden items.

Jump, no puff

I’m sure you always know that Kirby can float pretty much indefinitely while in the air by puffing himself up. Adorable. You can even hold A to keep going up instead of tapping it. Still cute.

But if you puff in the air, your next move will be exhaling that air in a small attack. Only, this attack is much worse than the aerial attacks of many abilities and powers.

Remember should you need to use powers in the air, just jump once, or exhale before you attempt to get your attack out.

Checking every corner…

This is pretty self explanatory, but just because you see a door to the next section of the level or even the end-of-level door doesn’t mean you should rush through.

Go past it, check if there’s anything hidden afterwards, maybe go back a bit in the current area and double check a suspicious ledge you saw.

There are secrets hidden throughout Kirby’s world, and if you’re not speedrunning then you owe it to yourself to spend some time to smell the roses.
