The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild dominates the Golden Joystick Awards

iOS + Android + 3DS ...

Last Friday we saw the 35th annual Golden Joystick Awards take place and it's certainly been a tougher competition than ever with this last year of gaming.

Started in 1983, the Golden Joystick Awards is an award ceremony celebrating the best and most deservedly recognised video games of the year. Though originally voted for by the British public the votes were recently turned outwards, allowing anyone with an internet connection to pick their favourites.

It's hardly surprising to see The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild do well in its first year on the market, but overall it picked up a whopping four awards. Five if you include Nintendo's award for 'Studio of the Year':

  • Ultimate Game of the Year
  • Nintendo Game of the Year
  • Critics’ Choice Award
  • Best Audio
  • Studio of the Year

Pokemon Sun/Moon managed to scoop up an award for 'Best Handheld/Mobile Games of the Year', bumping out the likes of Fire Emblem Heroes, Old Man's Journey, Monument Valley 2, and more.

A big congrats all around to those who won and those who just missed out. I guess we'll just have to see what the next year brings.
