 NINTENDO SWITCH NEWS - UPCOMING

Nine Final Fantasy games are coming to Switch over the next year

Sorry... how many?

Summary News Review Screens Videos Articles Tips
For: Switch   Also on: iPhone, iPad

Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition Switch, thumbnail 1
OK, so Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD we saw coming. But Square Enix has dropped announcements for EIGHT more entries in the series coming to Switch over the next year. Which is absolutely wild.

The aforementioned chibi version of FFXV is out right this second, and if you grab it soon you'll get a 40% discount on the game's full price of £25. We thought it was great on mobile, though it is a shame that we're not getting the full release of the main game.

World of Final Fantasy Maxima is up next - it's got the cutesy art style of FFXVPEHD but bumped up to a higher resolution. It's also a more traditional turn-based affair, and I think involves you wearing other Final Fantasy characters as hats? It's already been out on PS4, but it'll land on Switch on November 6th.

Next on the slate is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition, an HD-ified version of the GameCube classic. This was announced earlier this week, but basically, it's a four-player co-op adventure with added online play and a lot less messing about with GBAs and Link Cables. It'll be out in 2019.

For something a bit different, there's Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY!, which looks super weird. It also reminds me of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, in that it's a top-down dungeon-crawling RPG where you play as a Chocobo and a buddy enemy, defeating other baddies and gathering loot. That's due this winter.

Hated all that? Don't worry, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is coming too. This HD remaster of the PS2 game caught a lot of praise when it launched on PS4, so we imagine its Switch edition will be pretty good too. This is true Final Fantasy action in all its glory - no silly gimmicks here. Expect that to launch some time in 2019.

And for the hardcore fans, you can expect Final Fantasy VII, IX, and the X/X-2 HD editions all to land on Switch at some point in 2019. That's basically all the classics, now finally making their way to a Nintendo console.

Gosh, that's a lot of Final Fantasy! If you're already a fan, no doubt you'll be buying these re-releases again for the third time. But it's also a great entry point for newcomers to the franchise to dig in and have a bash.

I need a lie down now. Jeepers.
