Switch players will have to wait a bit longer for Dragon Quest XI

At long last, Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest XI is coming to Europe and North America. The latest adventure in the franchise is getting a western localisation, but there is a catch—it’s only coming to PlayStation 4 and PC when it initially launches on September 4.

I know, I know. No immediate Switch version is a bit of a bummer, but the good news is that the game is definitely coming to Switch, just not in 2018. Square Enix told IGN that the Switch version will take a lot longer to sort out due to technological differences. If you’re holding out for a portable version of the game, don’t expect you’ll be able to play it on 3DS anytime soon, either. Square Enix has opted not to launch the 3DS version in the west.

When the game does finally launch on Switch, the western version of Dragon Quest XI comes with a few new features not found in the original. There will be English voice acting, of course, as well as a Hard difficulty setting, re-designed menus, a first-person camera, and a faster dash option for running across the game’s huge world.

If you need something to hold yourself over until Dragon Quest XI materializes, we've heard that Dragon Quest Builders is quite good.
