Donkey Kong and Sky Skipper join the Arcade Archives lineup

Nintendo put a neat bow on their E3 presentations today, announcing that the arcade version of Donkey Kong and the ultra rare Sky Skipper would be the next additions to Hamster Corp.’s Arcade Archives series.

Arcade Archives Donkey Kong comes bundled with three different versions of the original arcade game. Players will be able to try out the original Japanese version, a later patched version that addresses bugs, and the international version. The Arcade Archives is also introducing two new gameplay modes - Hi Score and Caravan mode - that will take advantage of online leaderboards.

Hamster Corp. will be releasing Sky Skipper as part of the Arcade Archives as well. Sky Skipper is a rare Nintendo arcade game that never launched in the west. The game casts you as a pilot on a quest to save the royal family from gorillas by collecting cards, avoiding enemy attacks, and dropping bombs.

The Sky Skipper arcade cabinets are a rare find. Nintendo believes the only remaining original Sky Skipper cabinet is the one housed in the company’s archives. They used the ROMs from that cabinet’s circuit board to bring the game in its pure state to Switch.

Arcade Archives Donkey Kong is available on the Switch eShop right now, and Sky Skipper will be following along shortly next month.
