Diablo 3 - 5 more classic RPGs we'd like to see on Switch

This week has seen the rumour mill going into overdrive concerning a Diablo 3 port for the Nintendo Switch.

Developer Blizzard - the big tease - recently tweeted a video of someone switching a Diablo-themed light on and off. Switching... Diablo... switching... Diablo. Diablo 3 for Switch?

It seems highly likely, and despite Blizzard's subsequent protestations, reports from across the internet suggest that we can indeed expect a port of the much-loved hack-and-slash RPG.

There are plenty of other classic western RPGs we'd love to see on Nintendo's brilliant hybrid console, of course. Like these ones.

Torchlight 2

Torchlight 2 first launched on PC in the same year as Diablo 3, and to some it was the better, more interesting old school RPG. It plays a lot like Diablo 3, but is set in a fresher, more vibrant steampunk world.

The latter point could make it the perfect gateway drug for Switch owners. Sadly Runic Games folder towards the end of last year, making the likelihood of a Switch Torchlight 2 port pretty negligible.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

One of the biggest and best old school western RPGs of recent years, Divinity: Original Sin 2 attracted widespread acclaim at launch with its deep, complex, challenging gameplay.

As for whether a Switch version would be possible, we're not so sure. However, Larian Studios head Swen Vincke has gone on record to state that he would love to find a way to do so.

Path of Exile

Another (relatively) recent addition to the traditional ARPG genre, Path of Exile has won over a bunch of hardcore fans with its formidably deep character development system.

Sure, its setting is a little grim, and it lacks the polish and distinctive style that a Switch audience might expect. But for pure hacky-looty depth, it's a winner.

Grim Dawn

More modern hacky-slashy RPG action that owes a debt to Diablo here. As the name suggests, Grim Dawn's world isn't a particularly bright and cheery place, which doesn't necessarily chime with Nintendo's console.

However, its fantasy-horror theme (with a little Western stirred in) marks it out as being a little more interesting than your average Tolkien-meets-Warhammer nonsense. We'd love to go shooting and looting with this on Switch.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

Well whaddaya know? Another Diablo-inflected action RPG with a monster mash theme. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing casts you as the son of the legendary vampire slayer in a steampunk 19th century Europe.

It's a simpler and, surprisingly, more humourous affair than most of the other games on this list. That leads us to suspect that it would be a pretty good fit for Switch.
