Adrenaline soaked racer Asphalt 9: Legends announced for summer Switch release

Asphalt 9: Legends has been a massive deal for the team here at Pocket Gamer, we've been writing about it since its soft launch over a year ago, and we've followed it through to this day. So, we're nothing short of thrilled to be here to discuss the game coming to the Switch.

Gameloft have decided to bring their latest entry in the long running Asphalt series to the Nintendo Switch following the success of their FPS, Modern Combat Blackout, on the system earlier in the year.

Legends is all about taking supercharged supercars and racing them through dense, dynamic locations. It very much nails the hand-clenching nervousness that the Burnout series conveyed in years past — requiring fast reflexes and a keen eye. You can leave the driving to the game if you wish, instead focusing on route choice, drifting and boost inputs, or you can take the wheel and slide around the road.

From the very first race, where you test out a supercar, through the fully licensed soundtrack of the menu, into the surprisingly hands-off free-to-play, Asphalt 9: Legends is easily the standout racing game for us.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game will be free to download, and it won't require a Nintendo Switch Online account in order to download it and play it online. It'll also include up-to 4-player split-screen mutliplayer, and a quick race mode — both of which are new to the series, as well as 8 player online play.

We've little to go on beyond a vague summer release date, but we'll be sure to keep you updated. Until then, check out our Asphalt 9: Legends Hub.
