Challenge the universe with your word skills

Supernova explodes onto the iPhone

Touch, grab, drag and shake. For most men, that's an efficient urination strategy. But it's also how developer Swamiware describes the controls for its new iPhone game, Supernova: Challenge of the Universe.

It's an interesting mash-up of shoot-'em-ups and word puzzles. You have to save the galaxy by unscrambling letters on planets around you, to form 'goal words'.

The game has more than 400 levels to play, and boasts more than 5MB of dictionary data to ensure all the words are correct.

Perhaps ambitiously, Swamiware is claiming Supernova will be the latest word-game craze, following Scrabble, Wheel of Fortune and Scrabulous.

It sounds like it could be fun though, allying 3D space visuals to the core letter-tapping action. The game's out now on the App Store for £4.99, and you can buy it by clicking the 'Buy It' button below.
