Supermono brings cutting edge deferred rendering engine to iPhone
It's the shiniest car in the world
UK studio Supermono is best known for its excellent MiniSquadron games, but it's been a bit quiet lately. That's because it's been working on an all-new game engine for its future titles.
It's just released a video of the technology working on a demo scene involving what could be the shiniest car ever seen on an iPhone.
But as the description explains, while the new game will feature cars, it's not really a racing game.
The science bitAs for how the technology works, it uses a technique called deferred rendering, which was popularised in games such as Killzone and Uncharted.
This reverses the usual rendering pipeline (the deferred bit), enabling developers to use lots of dynamic lights in complex ways, albeit creating some issues when it comes to anti-aliasing and alpha blending.
Still, that's a discussion for another science lesson. In the meantime, just enjoy some impressive graphics. As for Supermono's "car but not really racing" game, that's due out in the summer.
