AirPlay explains why Super Yum Yum is licking up to DSiWare

There's only one thing to do with games that have been successful on mobile and iPhone, and that's make them successful on other consoles.

And that's exactly what's happening with Super Yum Yum, the puzzle game that's done three mobile versions and also made the jump to iPhone.

Now, in the form of Super Yum Yum Puzzle Adventures it's coming to the download DSiWare channel.

We caught up with James Wright from developer AirPlay to find out some more.

Pocket Gamer: So what's this Super Yum Yum game all about then?

James Wright: The game stars Leon the Chameleon who must eat his way through fruity, fiendish puzzles, licking fruit to change colour and choosing the right combinations of fruit to finish each level. Leon must also rescue his babies along the way from the pesky fruit monster Ms Tum Tum.

There have been three interactions of the game since 2004 and approximately one million people have played them.

How long did it take to make the DSiWare version?

Around about four months, which is really tight in terms of timescales.

Can you explain how the game was developed?

Developing the game has only been possible due to a great partnership between ourselves, Mastertronic and Impressionware. The development itself is a co-production between ourselves and Impressionware, an independent Italian developer.

The tight schedule we had for the project meant it was only made possible by partnering with a company with great DS technology. Impressionware has made huge efforts in getting the game code ready in time. The production, graphics, game and level design have all been managed at AirPlay in London.

What other games would you compare Super Yum Yum Puzzle Adventure to?

It's an action puzzle game, but I'm not going to start comparing it to other games as that would be misleading. One of the reasons we have so many fans and the game has a buzz is because the gameplay is simple and yet is original.

Can you sum up its appeal in one sentence?

Super Yum Yum: Puzzle Adventures is easy to pick-up-and-play and is packed full of brain-tingling puzzles to keep you entertained for hours.

Finally, what's coming next in the Super Yum Yum world?

We're currently working hard on a 3D PC/console version, which will be out next year. As for another DSi version, we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks to James for his time. Super Yum Yum: Puzzle Adventures is due out sometime very soon.
