A few weeks ago, we confirmed that Super Crate Box would be available on iOS before the year was out.

We hadn’t heard anything more from Vlambeer on the matter - until now.

Vlambeer’s blog was updated yesterday with a post assuring fans that the frantic retro platformer is on its way: "We’ve just submitted the game to Apple for review!"

The Dutch developer also offered some explanation for the team’s recent radio silence: "This was a way bigger project than we originally anticipated."

I'm going to build a fort

Super Crate Box was a freeware PC title that went on to become one of the most popular indie games of 2010, gaining plaudits from Gamasutra and Edge.

Since then, Vlambeer has been working with indie developer Halfbot on the iOS port.

Vlambeer is keen to dismiss concerns that the iPhone’s touchscreen may not be suitable for recreating the tight controls and relentless pace of the PC experience.

"Super Crate Box is still hard as hell - it’s hard as hell because that’s what Super Crate Box is, not because of the touch controls," the blog asserts.

There is no confirmed release date at the moment, though we shouldn't have to wait too long now.
