Acer announces Android powered Stream

Another day, another high-end Android device. This time it's from Acer, which is relatively new to this handset lark.

The Taiwanese company sure knows how to talk its products up, though, calling the Stream "the utmost expression of technology, design, performance and entertainment."

If you're wondering what an utmost expression of technology, design, performance and entertainment looks like, its a Nexus One-level device with a multimedia focus.

The Stream features a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, 512MB of RAM, and 2GB of onboard storage. There are the usual wi-fi, Bluetooth and 5MP camera facilities, too.

As mentioned, though, the phone has a clear multimedia focus. This is evidenced by the presence of three large physical keys (Play/Pause, Fast Forward and Rewind) located along the bottom of the device if you look at it in portrait view.

You can also record 720p video and make use of a free music streaming service, called Spinlets.

The phone will run Android 2.1 from the off, with Acer's own custom UI overlaying it.

The Android Stream first reared its head at the recent Google I/O, but was then labelled the urine-evoking Liquid Stream. Wise move, dropping the Liquid.
