Dell has just announced plans to release its Android-powered phone/tablet hybrid, the Streak, to UK customers in early June.

The Streak sports a whopping 5-inch capacitive multi-touch WVGA display, in keeping with Dell’s intention 'to provide people the best “on-the-go” entertainment, social connection, and navigation experience.'

It’s powered by the current high-end mobile processor of choice, Qualcomm’s 1GHz processor, and is backed by 16GB of internal memory. It also sports the expected array of features, including a 5MP camera, wi-fi, GPS and Bluetooth 2.1.

While the Streak will only be running Android 1.6 to start with, Dell claims that it will receive an OTA update to the recently announced 2.2 (Froyo) “later this year”.

“The Dell Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets,” said Ron Garriques, president of Dell Communication Solutions Group. “Its unique size provides people new ways to enjoy, connect, and navigate their lives.”

The initial roll-out will be through O2, which has the device listed for a June 4th release. You’ll also be able to pick one up at Carphone Warehouse at this time, and directly from Dell’s website later in the month.

Dell intends to make the Streak available in the US some time over the summer.
