EA Mobile bringing Boom Blox Wii game to mobile
Good news for Steven Spielberg fans
Hey, check this out: Steven Spielberg is making a mobile game! Well, kind of. Indirectly. No, it's not E.T. Bowling.
Spielberg has actually been collaborating with Electronic Arts on a game called Boom Blox, for the Wii console. It's an action-puzzle game that's got blocks, but also chickens and baseball-throwing monkeys. We're sold.
The Wii version will have more than 300 levels, but also a big user-generated content aspect, with players able to remix any level of the game in a Create mode, as well as constructing new levels from scratch (which can then be shared with other gamers over the WiiConnect24 service).
The Wii game's due out in May, but EA Mobile has also announced that it's working on a tie-in mobile game. It features the same basic gameplay but – here's the exciting bit – it'll also have a level creation feature, enabling you to knock up new levels on your phone and share them with friends.
EA Mobile isn't the first publisher to investigate UGC in mobile games – Vivendi Games Mobile is also talking up the idea – but it's great to see that these large publishers are starting to debut these kind of innovative connected features, despite the technical and billing challenges they present on mobile.
