A long voyage ahead
Catch your first sight of Konami’s seaborne conspiracy theory warfare sim
The age of the battleship is long gone - thanks to the tricky aggression of the Exocet missile and long range attack fighters. But, once upon a time, 78,000 tonnes of floating metal was the biggest stick colonial powers used to scare the natives.
And it’s back to that age - well, actually an alternative version of the Second World War - with Konami’s Steel Horizons. Currently in development at UK studio Climax for both DS and PSP, it’s shaping up to be a mixture of strategy, simulation and the X-Files!
A surprising combination, for sure, and in the game you’ll find yourself cast as the captain of a secret US ship that discovers a mysterious organisation that's out to orchestrate war for its own ends. Adding to your firepower will be an array of vessels including battleships, aircraft carriers, destroyers and submarines. Obviously each will have its own special characteristics that you’ll need to combine in order to overcome the enemy through a 20 mission single-player campaign.
But with a release date currently pencilled in for the end of 2006, few other details have yet been announced, other than the game will offer a wi-fi head-to-head mode for both DS and PSP.
