Game studios to raise funds for the charity War Child by making a game album

London-based charity War Child is hosting a game jam to raise funds and it will see various big and small game studios participating.

The resulting games will be sold as a compilation called HELP: Real War is Not a Game on Steam and "other digital download platforms" (hopefully tablets) in March 2016.

Halo developer 343 Industries is involved, as well as Surgeon Simulator dev Bossa Studios, Worms developer Team 17, and Stealth Inc dev Curve Digital.

Other studios that have also been confirmed include A Brave Plan, Carbon Games, Creative Assembly, Hardlight, Hinterland, Spilt Milk Studios, Sports Interactive, and Torn Banner.

Plus, Unity, GameMaker, and Unreal are providing their engines free of cost to those participating in the game jam to use.

Other studios and companies are expected to be confirmed in the future.

The idea here originates from the compilation albums that were produced for charity in the past.

In fact, War Child's first "HELP" album was produced 20 years ago today. Artists included Oasis, Blur, The Stone Roses, Paul Weller, and Paul McCartney.

War Child hopes now that the game industry can also help to raise funds to help children caught up in warfare.

You can find out more about HELP: Real War Is Not A Game on its website (which is down at the time of writing).
