Five reasons to check out Alawar's digital voyeur simulator Do Not Feed The Monkeys

Invading the privacy of others is normally a big no-no. However, Do Not Feed The Monkeys is a new narrative-driven “digital voyeur simulator” from Fictiorama Studios and published by Alawar Premium where you’reactually encouraged to keep track of people’s actions without them knowing. Tired of living a boring life and working tedious jobs, you play a recently hired new member of the so-called Private Observation Club conflicted about the task at hand. Releasing soon, here are our top five reasons to check it out.

A story shrouded in secrecy

If you hadn’t already guessed, Do Not Feed The Monkeys doesn’t weave your typical narrative. As a newly recruited member of the Private Observation Club, it isn’t long before you discover that it is not the wildlife conservation society that the name suggests. Eventually you’re asked to keep watch of the many unsuspecting victims. For what and for who, you won’t always be sure. But if you don’t do as the club says, trying to keep up with the rent and get money for food will prove impossible.

Those you’re forced to track and monitor are referred to only as “caged monkeys” – hence the game’s name. Invade their privacy and witness their most intimate moments, just don’t interact with them. Otherwise, who knows what could happen if you dare feed the monkeys?

Player-driven choices that matter

This central dilemma is where the main crux of Do Not Feed The Monkeys’ choice mechanic comes in. Throughout various points in the story, you’ll be given the opportunity to go against the club’s wishes. Will you merely observe the events happening before you or attempt to interfere? The game’s story features many twists and turns, but where they take you will depend entirely on the choices you make during these crucial moments.

Multiple endings to see

Because of these many diverging paths, the ending you receive in Do Not Feed The Monkeys could differ wildly on a second, or even a third playthrough. This is great for completionists willing to dig deep into every nook and cranny; venturing down all branching paths in search of the Private Observation Club’s true intention. However, those who play Do Not Feed The Monkeys just the once are guaranteed a resolution unique to their decisions.

2D pixel art style

Do Not Feed The Monkeys features a distinct pixel art graphics style that makes it easier for you to decipher exactly what is going on amongst your unsuspecting subjects. Everything from the in-game social networks, websites, newspapers and such are rendered in this retro aesthetic, where you’re encouraged to collect as much information as possible about the "monkeys" you're spying on.

Different brands of humour throughout

Despite the game’s shady and slightly disturbing gameplay conceit, there’s plenty of comedic moments and charming characters to offset it. The humour might range from the darkly cynical to laugh-out-loud, but either way, Do Not Feed The Monkeys makes concerted efforts to tickle your funny bone regardless of if you follow the club’s one rule or not.

Do Not Feed The Monkeys is set to release on Steam this October 23rd 8:00pm (PDT), where players can either sit back and watch the world burn or interfere and feel the consequences. The choice is yours.
