Steam Iron: The Fallen mobile game goes live

But South Korea is getting it first

Steam Iron: The Fallen mobile game goes live

Developer Mikoishi has announced that its ambitious Steam Iron: The Fallen mobile game has gone live, albeit only in South Korea so far.

We've written about the game before: it's an online real-time strategy (RTS) mobile game designed to be played over 3G networks. It's being pitched as a mobile version of Blizzard Entertainment's Starcraft, as a guide.

Mikoishi is actually working with MMO powerhouse Nexon's mobile division on the game, and it's signing some pretty interesting deals in Korea to promote it.

For example, cable TV broadcaster Ongamenet plans to actually stream Steam Iron games on its channel – this might sound bonkers to those of us in the west, but in Korea the idea of MMOs becoming TV entertainment is actually well established.

"Our Theatre technology will enable broadcasters to connect to a live game being played on our servers, and using in-game camera controls, selectively showcase the skills of expert players during a live match," explains Alex Goatcher, chief creative officer at Mikoishi.

Blimey. Mikoishi says that Steam Iron: The Fallen is coming to Europe later this month, with the US, China and Taiwan following later in the year. What's more, the company is already working on a sequel, for release in Korea this November.
