SteamIron: mobile's first multiplayer real-time strategy game

Mikoishi set to reveal all at Games Convention Asia 2007

SteamIron: mobile's first multiplayer real-time strategy game

If you're bored with one-thumb mobile games and are craving something a bit more… hardcore, then Singapore-based developer Mikoishi might be worth keeping an eye on.

The company is hard at work on a game called SteamIron: The Fallen, and it's due to reveal full details at the Games Convention Asia 2007 show this Friday. However, some tidbits have slipped out beforehand.

Mikoishi describes it as "the world's first true online Real Time Strategy (RTS) game for mobile phones", while the developer's website claims it'll offer "intense gameplay aimed at the shorter time frames that are necessary for mobile".

Included will be full multiplayer, as well as tournaments, guilds, leagues, buddy lists, global rankings and multiplayer matching, while Mikoishi has revealed it is working with the mobile division of online gaming firm Nexon to release the game.

Oh, there's also a storyline, with SteamIron taking its cues from the space opera tradition, featuring interstellar spaceships, futuristic communication technologies, and an evil Ternion Empire beset by infighting between its Emperor, his elite Modan guards, and a religious Pax Imperium organisation.

It's the Nexon link that's most intriguing, though. During their presentation at GC Asia this Friday, Mikoishi and Nexon have promised to "share their future plans for the SteamIron franchise", which makes us wonder if this means cross-platform gameplay of some kind, such as taking SteamIron to PC gamers.

All will be revealed then, we guess. Click 'Track It!' to be alerted whenever we cover this ambitious game.
